I'm thrilled.
Any time I get to talk about the book makes me happy.
It was a real joy to write.
yeah it's so interesting and i will admit i did not know this before i started i mean i i i like to fashion myself as a political junkie and a sports junkie but there's still a lot of room to learn in there and i did not know a bunch of stuff that was in the book which was really fun to kind of uncover but one of the things you you kind of obliquely mentioned it is
Roosevelt, TR, Teddy Roosevelt certainly, FDR, and then right into Eisenhower, they all viewed sports, but football in particular,
as the best way to train young men to fight in wars.
So they viewed it as sort of a societal necessity in that nothing else, in their estimation, nothing else could prepare teenage boys going into manhood
for the rigor, the sacrifice, the pain potentially of a war, following orders, learning plays, et cetera, et cetera.
So that's why, you know, when FDR brought the heads of, at the time, it was like all the Ivies, Yale and Harvard together because people were dying playing football because they didn't wear helmets.
He was more, he was less interested in it because of its,
um you know that he liked football then he viewed it as the only training ground they had so eisenhower very much in keeping uh with that i mean what's fascinating about eisenhower is
He, as you said, was a pretty good football player.
He was the first of... So I basically looked at every president from Eisenhower all the way through Biden at the time the book came out was 2023.
The one thread that binds all of them sports-wise is golf.
And Eisenhower is probably the one that was the most...
passionate about it.
So he found other outlets for his sort of competitive nature and, you know, wanting to wanting to be involved in sports.
But yeah, football, football is fascinating because it wasn't even really for the game.
It was more for the for the training.
