You know, LBJ, obviously, I think the guy that we define as the, for better and worse, the biggest political animal, maybe this side of Nixon that we've had in the presidency.
And he realizes, so he gets elected to the Senate.
And he's a relatively young guy.
And he was always very good throughout his life at assessing power centers.
Who has the power?
How can I get close to that person?
And at that time, the Senate majority leader was a guy named Richard Russell.
The Russell Building in Washington, where their Senate offices are, is named after him, was the most powerful politician, certainly if you're a Southern Democrat, as Johnson was.
