So half the characters in my book are Republicans, some of whom are libertarians who are using market craft to do things like make the treasury market work in some cases or make energy prices more stable in others.

And then half of the folks are progressives and lefties.

Listen, I'm left of center, as you and your viewers can tell.

So I tend to be more sympathetic to those.

But I will say that there are a lot of folks on the right who have been very effective market crafters.

Now,

A crisp example of what you're talking about is crafting a market for a goal that I would not believe in is Alan Greenspan, who was the chairman of the Federal Reserve for 20 plus years, starting in the late 80s all the way through 2008.

And for most of your viewers probably know about him, but just one click on the general take on his career, he was a very powerful Fed chair who everybody loved.

Clinton loved him.

Bush loved him.

Everybody loved him.

And he generally was thought to be a deregulator, getting rid of the rules.

All right.

That's true.

And he was also a market crafter because he was obsessed with financial innovation.

He wanted markets to work faster and what he would say would be better with more products, more complexity, because he thought that the more efficient a market was...

the more you'd have market discipline and the safer it would be.

So in other words, if you had a new fancy product that enabled me to see that this other bank wasn't doing well, I could short the bank stock.

The rest of the market would know it.

That bank would have higher funding costs and everybody would, you know, work together to get that bank back into shape naturally.
