And when you look at a lot of the math that most people are doing and they're comparing cash and points prices.
They are not decreasing the cash price by all of the extra things that you have access to.
Now, if it's a foreign random care, we flew on air Tahiti.
No card link to offer, no miles and points to earn.
Like there's nothing there.
There's also no way to use points, so it didn't matter.
Right.
But in that case, like there are flights, especially abroad, where you're not going to get a bunch of redeemable points or status points or anything.
And so that math might not matter.
The only caveat here is when you book with points, it's very flexible.
You can cancel and get your points back.
When you book with cash, unless you pay for a refundable fare, you're going to end up with a flight credit.
Now if
you live in the Bay Area and you end up with a two hundred dollar United flight credit, you can probably use it.
If you live in the Bay Area and you end up with a five hundred dollar Lufthansa credit, it might be tricky to use.
And so I do think that if you want to play the game honestly, it's like, well, I should add or decrease the cash price by fifteen percent ish, but I should also be looking at the refundable price if it's a trip where I might need that refundability.
I think the rule of thumb could be I'm probably gonna get back five to ten percent from a cash booking on an airline that I wanna earn points on and probably like ten to fifteen if I care about status, and then use the regular price if I value the flight credits or I am not gonna cancel this trip and use the refundable price if not.
