You know, there was no big legal agenda.

It's actually a fundamental law because I grew up on Indigenous communities.
You know, that was something that was deeply ingrained in me.
We have to express gratitude when we're healed to the people that originally shared that.
And the Western health system
one of the biggest challenges is that we believe these medicines come from companies and pills but they actually come from plants and people and so it became kind of a passion of mine to start tracing pharmaceutical drugs and the more i looked the more i see upstream indigenous origins especially when there's like gaps in the patents and things because the companies want to show that they exclusively develop this but they you know you can't cover up gaps so i would look for those gaps find the communities and then go to them to let them know that
like the biggest selling cancer drug in the world taxol or tamoxifen that cures all breast and ovarian cancer that comes from indigenous people lots of hiv medicines in fact the majority of all the world's medicines come from indigenous people so it's not hard to find it's not like looking for a needle in a haystack it's a history that's repeated in almost every medicine that we have

There'll be a lot of excitement and the aunties will say things like, no one ever returns this to us.
That was my most recent conversation.

This is the first time I've ever seen this.
And children, when you reframe D-Day as your ancestors were responsible for overthrowing Hitler, they're like superheroes.
The kids really light up, and they get very excited and animated.
