If Cartesian materialism were true, I think he even says.

If it's true that there's a singular stream, then we could make sense of these two as being distinct.

But he wants to reject that whole idea, in which case this just becomes a nonsensical, incoherent question to him.

I think some of it might come from the way in which our imagination works, right?

I think Dennett even talks about this a little bit, but the way in which we can imagine a body without a mind, right?

And we can imagine a mind without a body.

And some people think that that's sufficient enough to ask the question, why does it feel like there's something on the inside rather than all of this occurring in the dark, so to speak?

So they think that's a serious concern.

Like why shouldn't this all just be, if you will, in the dark?

And I think you're saying something like, it's similar to asking like, why does liquidity at all come along with the H2O and the chemicals involved, the chemical process?

Like why would you, and some people would say, well, you can't imagine water without liquid.

And you seem to be saying something like, you can't imagine the kind of process that goes on our brain and the natural selection sort of story we told without a felt experience coming along with it, which that some people think that they're separable.
