ABA, what does it stand for?
Applied Behavioral Analysis, right?
So it is a science.
The idea behind it is to understand behavior.
and predict and shape behavior.
That's kind of the easiest way of looking at it.
So shaping behavior, changing one's behavior is kind of the umbrella idea of that type of intervention.
It uses operant conditioning, meaning shaping behavior, and it uses positive reinforcement.
So you'll hear that phrase,
used a lot in most settings.
When you talk about ABA, you will hear positive reinforcement.
Positive reinforcement means rewards, whether it's verbal praise, a lot of good job, good job, good job, child works great with heavy use of verbal praise, or
use of a token system sticker charts and those types of things so so that's kind of the idea behind it um a lot of the goals um can be a little challenging because the goals are they tend to be behavioral based and they don't consider
