We've made a couple of mistakes on the electric typewriter.
try to correct it with the white out and or the the white thing then put the cartridge back in with the you know black ink.
And uh you had to start over.
And I did fifty of those to LA Times and Washington Post and New York Times and Chicago Tribune and you name it, Houston Post, et cetera.
Uh, and I would have done another fifty if I had not gotten any response.
Uh pulled it all nighter for sure doing that.
Of course you had to c copy all your clips.
You know, uh have huge envelopes to mail everything, get the address, um, mail it to the managing editor or the sports center, whatever the case might be.
Out of those 50, I got one response.
So here I am, a woman in a man's world, and you look at my career now and you say, okay, and I tell you say this to students, not to brag at all, but to show them that the uncertainty and the moment that, you know, as as a 20, still 22-year-old getting my m undergrad and then my master's with four internships, and I get one response from the first 50.
as w when a lot of newspapers still needed to hire a woman to sports writer.
Some had some, some didn't, some kind of a quota kind of and uh it was the Houston Post.
They flew me down and they offered me a job.
Miami Herald had said, Paul Anger had said, we don't
when I talked to him a few months earlier, we don't really have anything, but keep me posted.

Now that didn't r ring in my brain the way it would now, what that meant.
