Maybe we're slightly guilty of doing it ourselves, kind of like, you know, looking at people in the workplace and maybe thinking, oh, he or she is set in their ways.
You know, can they learn new skills?
I mean, we've got some amazing people who I work with at the Financial Times who are constantly learning.
reinventing themselves.
You know, there's a guy who I work with who's in our graphic design team.
He's probably been at the FT even longer than I have, and he's been in the same job, but he's absolutely innovative.
Like, you know, every year he's learning some kind of new design technique or some new way of presenting data.
And he's in his 60s now, but he's easily the most talented and respected person in that team because he keeps on learning.

Do I take years off my CV?
Do I change industry?
I think, you know, within the job you have, number one,

How is your industry changing?
I mean, obviously, I would say read the newspapers, keep an eye on what's going on.

industry moving because it's not just ai that's causing this bloodbath in in jobs it's kind of technology in general how things are changing and if we're going to have careers now that will routinely last for 40 50 maybe even 60 years for younger generations then we can't cling on to this concept of all of the learning and education happening at the beginning
you know, when we go to college and university, it has to keep happening, I think, throughout that career path so that we stay on top of our knowledge and our skills and change as the jobs market adapts.
And I mean, I think it's holding back women's careers in other ways, too, because, you know, you may have to say, well, actually, I can't take that promotion or I'm going to have to go part time or I'm going to have to kind of lower my career ambitions because I know that the demands of that role are.
are not going to be compatible with the flexibility I need.
