But the other issue is the so-called marginal rate.
On one side, it's the rate that you earn on the extra euro of income.

an area where the Irish system stands out.
So a lot of middle earners are paying a marginal rate of 46%.
And anyone who earns over 70,000 is paying 52%.
So that's when you add in income tax, PRSI, and the USC.
PRSI has been going up.
It has, and it's been ticking up, and it's going to tick up a bit further next year, I think by 0.15%, if memory serves me, on employers and employees.
And that's part of a gradual process to try and underpin the Social Insurance Fund, which pays unemployment benefits pensions.
It has, yeah, it has.
The calculations are that with the population ageing, this is needed to underpin it.
And I guess Pascal Dunne, who brought this in a few years ago on the base that it would...
it would just creep up each year and people wouldn't notice quite too much, but it would help to underpin the fund.
But it is increasing and we could either do so for another couple of years.
It is, yeah.
The numbers just paying no income tax and the numbers paying at the standard rate shows that the system is relatively generous to lower earners.
And that's because Ireland has a fairly generous...
system of tax credits, which is the amount you can earn before you pay any tax at all.
So it's deducted from your income tax bill.
