Instead, he's learning about the things that we've already learned, that he has already learned 10 minutes ago from one of the neighbors who just exposition dumped all over him.
Picking up the pieces of his dead wife's investigation, putting the clues together to solve a mystery across a century is far more interesting.
Instead, he's investigating pieces that he already knows how they fit into the larger puzzle shape.
By already having given us this information, it renders this plot line completely inert and it doesn't give us a reason to watch.
We're spinning our wheels through these two part, you know, what, 90 minutes a piece that it just feels like we're wasting our time.
