So, so now, in the last couple of years, I still am suffering from the effects of that I've largely kind of pasted over it with the dogs, but they still struggle.
And if I do nothing, they will still sometimes assume that they're wrong, and immediately try something else.
which I definitely do not want.
If I do nothing, it means you're on the right track and you should keep doing it.
I don't wanna have to say tunnel 50 times to get you to take a tunnel.
I'm gonna say tunnel and then do nothing.
As long as you're on the way to the tunnel, I'm gonna do nothing until you've done it.
They're not frantic.
And what you get if you use no response as a no reward marker is a dog that starts to panic as soon as you do nothing.
And they try to elicit a response from you immediately.
Well, that didn't work.
I'm going to do something else.
Well, that didn't work.
I'm going to do something else until I get a response from you instead of she asked me to sit.
I'm sitting.
She's not doing anything.
I must need to keep sitting.
I am, I am,
okay with the idea that the welfare of my dogs is not determined by a single moment in their lives and i'm willing to accept that moments of discomfort or challenge can contribute to a better welfare overall right and i'm that's what yeah yeah i'm not interested in hiding that or pretending that that's not the case and
I believe that if we try to shield our kids or our dogs from moments of discomfort because we want them to be comfortable all the time, all we're going to do is create fragile creatures that cannot cope with any of life's inevitable challenges.
