There we go.
I would agree with that.
So having spent a lot of time in NAPA, I've heard your name so many times.
I would say that, and don't take this the wrong way, you're universally admired, but you're more admired than you are necessarily liked.
What's more important to you?
Would you rather be admired or liked or do you not really care?
So you've tried to kind of maintain Napa's we'll call it, um, agricultural feel kind of farming community feel, and you don't want it to be too developed.
I think I read, you don't want it to turn into another Disneyland.
How successful do you think you've been in that regard?
Cause of course I love going to Napa, but the traffic's pretty bad.
Some would say you've been almost too successful in that regard, in that by having this much profitability,
It's made it harder for newer or younger growers and winemakers to move into Napa because the ground is too expensive.
And also it's tended to price Napa wines out of the price range of many consumers because Napa is becoming kind of so premium.
What do you say to those critics, for lack of a better term?
I would agree with you there.
We'll be back in a few minutes with legendary vineyard owner Andy Beckstopper discussing how engineering and business training helped him transform agriculture.
Welcome back.
This is Dan Hesse and I'm talking with Andy Beckstopper about extracting your contribution to a value chain.
So we're talking about the things that have put Napa on the map and made it a premium location, premium wines.
There have been outside influences as well.
