So a family become homeless, they're placed in temporary accommodation, a hotel, a B&B, whatever, a hostel.
Then they're, after a number of months or weeks or months, offered alternative accommodation, which could basically be anywhere.

It could be in another city.
It could be two or three hours drive away.
They've never seen it.
They're given no option to view it before they have to accept it.
It's inhumane.
And if they say no, the phrase they're given is, well, you have made yourself intentionally homeless and therefore we don't have a duty to house you anymore.
And I said, you've got to stop using the phrase intentionally homeless.

That people tell me all the time makes them feel so angry because it's absurd.
And I talk about people in the book.
Not a single person I met in that book made themselves intentionally homeless.
It's ridiculous.
It's offensive.
And they said to me, someone put their hand up and said, that's legislation.
That's the phrase we have to use legally in response.
We have to say that.
so that's when go back to your point of yes could they be more kind on the phone could they have a longer conversation yes yes but it all ends up with the phrase the phrase still has to be delivered you've made yourself intentionally homeless and so that's where it becomes systemic that's where it's been decided in parliament in westminster that's okay that you can talk to people like that and there'll be a reason there'll be a little bit of reason at the time while that was the case you can't have people offered place after place after place and being fussy
