Referring to Prime Minister Mark Carney as governor and threatening a 100% tariff against Canada for its growing ties with China, Trump accused Carney of trying to turn Canada into a drop-off port for Chinese exports into the U.S.
A week ago, Trump appeared to be in favor of the Ottawa-Beijing deal, but in the wake of Davos and Carney's support of Greenland's sovereignty, Trump lashed out.
Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc says there is no free trade agreement being pursued with China and that Ottawa remains focused on Canada-U.S.
relations.
And some provincial premiers say they stand with Carney in building Canada's economy.

Despite his concerns, Carney would not commit to sending Canadian troops to Greenland for military exercises with NATO allies, adding that he is weighing the situation.
Denmark is planning sovereignty exercises which could include drills to protect Greenland's critical infrastructure.
Trump has threatened a 10% tariff on European nations that don't support his bid for Greenland.
Carney says Canada will always support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries wherever their geographic location is.
He says Ottawa's position remains unchanged.
The future of Greenland should be determined by its people and Denmark.
Meanwhile, Carney says he's accepted Trump's invitation to sit on the Board of Peace to temporarily govern the Gaza Strip.

The reversal came after feedback from passengers and crew and what the airline calls operational data.
WestJet initially wanted to add more seats to make airfares more affordable, but scaled back the 28-inch seat plan, which has become popular with some global airlines.
The new non-reclining seats have already been installed on more than 20 Boeing 737s, offering the smallest amount of legroom on any large Canadian carrier.
But the pitch hasn't fared well with some passengers, especially after a video of the new seating went viral and a family said the lack of legroom left them feeling uncomfortable and unsafe.
WestJet says it will return to the more spacious layout.
