Zelensky was welcomed to Canada by Prime Minister Mark Carney at the Halifax airport.
Carney confirmed the Russian air attacks and also announced $2.5 billion in additional economic aid to Ukraine.
He said Russia's most recent attack on Kyiv was barbaric and shows how important it is to stand with Ukraine.
Zelensky said the Russian attack with more than 500 drones and missiles shows that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a man of war.
This attack is, again, Russia's answer on our peace efforts.
And it's really a show that Putin doesn't want peace.
Zelensky said the U.S.-backed peace plan is about 90% ready, but some sticking points remain, such as security guarantees.

The 55-year-old Weissman will also lead Ottawa's negotiations with the U.S.
on the review of the North American Free Trade Agreement, known as USMCA.
Weissman is a global investment banker and a pension fund manager and a longtime friend of Carney's.
He's a member of the Prime Minister's Council on Canada-U.S.
Relations, which was formed to review the current trade agreement.
He was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, holds a joint Master of Business Administration and Law degree from the University of Toronto, and has worked on mergers and acquisitions in New York City and Paris.
Weissman replaces Kirsten Hillman, who announced earlier this month that she would end her Washington posting.

Those talks were abruptly ended last month by Trump after a TV ad that featured former President Ronald Reagan saying tariffs do not work in the long term.
Talks have not restarted.
And Carney says he will re-engage on trade issues when Washington is ready.
