I can see these teams saying we have no realistic chance to win a division this
We're already in a weaker division.
That sets us up not as great for the playoffs as some other teams with tougher schedules.
I can see those teams selling at least to a degree.
I can see the Cardinals.
making more of a push, and maybe even the Reds, as long as they don't add salary, just for the simple fact that there are fewer teams fighting against in the NL wildcard.
Like, if you look at the standings, the Twins are five games back in the wildcard standings.
They'd be about that far back in the NL, but...
In the AL, there's, I think, six or seven teams in front of them, and you wouldn't have as many teams in front of them in the NL.
So I think that kind of affects the bottom line of what you're going to go for because there is a perception issue.
But I would hope that any team in this area that makes an addition doesn't just make an addition that's just a rental.
Get someone who can help you in 2026 because that changes the calculus of everything.
I think what it comes down to is that the way MLB's playoff system is designed, where you have a lot of three, you have the three game series that are basically coin flips between teams with
widely different win totals during the season that MLB system makes that biggest break point making the playoffs versus not making the playoffs.
And that's a pretty big deal.
That's just how MLB has designed their postseason format.
