It was I guess the founders of the company came from one of the colleges around here very, very early on in the nineties.
And they had there's a thing that I find in almost every circumstance, I'm waiting to find it on this current gig that I'm on, that I call the file sharing landfill.
In many organizations, they'll have dozens or hundreds or what have you, thousands of employees.
There'll be some file server somewhere where everybody can collaborate.
And there will be no rhyme or reason to how things are organized or orchestrated in that share.
It's literally the wild west.
Anybody can make a directory, anybody can dump what they want.
And so out of convenience, everybody uses that place instead of their special secured spot if such thing even exists.
In most cases it does not.
Yeah.
And so you have this ocean of file share, and everyone puts their shit there.
Finance does, HR does, you see you'll find people's resumes, you'll find people's review write-ups, you'll find test.php, you'll find password.txt, password.xls, you name it, just like everything is there.
And what this company had done is every time they went through a major equipment upgrade, like every time they upgraded their file server, they would take that current piece of storage, that directory, and they would force
Forklift it into the new storage array and put it in a old directory.
Yes.
And this had happened six times or something like that.
Or something like that?
least the oldest stuff in there.
Nineteen ninety-six was the oldest file.
They had been doing this since nineteen ninety-six.
