That's like...

something that brings people together.

And like, since a little kid, I've been obsessed with food.

I can remember things I tasted like before I'd started kindy, you know what I mean?

And it was just such a thing in our family.

And then as I got older, I always wanted to cook because my mum was my idol.

And I was a real mummy's boy, which was a weird one because I was the super soft teddy bear loving crying at home kid.

getting arrested for grievous bodily harm and you know what i mean out in the streets but

was always a mummy's boy which made me really love food made me always want to cook made my parents really want me not to cook and not to do something with my hands so like and coming from apartheid say for my parents like you have the right to study you have to go and study you know so i studied accounting just because i was comfy with numbers and it was the thing i could push out quickest and get it over and done with and cook full-time i was cooking part-time while i was studying you know i was cooking at euro and at uni full-time

I was 16.

While I was at high school, I was making pizzas at a place called Capriata in Rimura Road, just next to the fishmonger.

and then from capriata i met oh the owner of capriata was mates um with a lady in east auckland so i started working at a place called barking dog and i was very lucky to have

Corey Ashby was stepping back because his son was unwell at the time.

So he was stepping back from being the head chef at Javoy Steakhouse.

We worked together at the Barking Dog.

And he said, the first thing you need to do is get the fuck out of here.

And he hooked me up a job at Euro.

Yeah, absolutely.
