And Jeremy Corbyn came out of nowhere from the left, ticking all the boxes for a left-leaning Labour membership.

And poor old Andy was just left.

I was with him quite a lot during that campaign.

In fact, I was going to write a book with him about him at the time.

He kept the hope going till quite close to the end.

But there was one point where he was in a church talking to a load of Labour Party members and just above him, someone in the crowd said, what's that sign behind you?

And he turns around and says, JC is coming.

Jesus Christ, it was meant to be.

He said that was from that point.

It was like, all right, OK, the writing literally is on the wall.

On the day of the election result, we all knew where it was going.

And Jeremy Corbyn got 60% of the vote.

Andy got 20%.

It was all a bit dismal.

He was pretty down in the dumps when Jeremy won, but he had said during that campaign that he would serve in Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet, while others said they wouldn't or sort of didn't say much at all.

He felt he had a responsibility to say, right, now I've lost.

This was me against him.

I've lost.

I need now to back him.

So he joined when Corbyn called him, asked him to be Shadow Home Secretary.
