Y'all, we are on the brink of August.
And I just kinda want to name this for a moment because August is genuinely hard.
Routine shift, calendars filled, deadlines loom, backcuts, and syllabi and board reports and book drafts, y'all, for parents, especially the back to school season ranks is as high as holiday season for me in terms of pressure.
The logistics alone are staggering.
I feel like as someone who
working in higher ed where things ramp up there and things are ramping up and are personalized at the same time.
It's absolutely banana pants.
But I want to remind you that you are also a person who's been doing the work of July.
You've been thinking about rest, you've been thinking about who you are when you're not performing, and now August is pulling you back to speed.
Victor Turner, he teaches three stages of transition.
He says that all transitions go through three stages, separation, liminality, and incorporation.
And August squarely lives in the middle.
It's the liminal space.
Right?
You're not quite in summer, but you're not quite into that back to school routine either.
And that is disorienting by design.
You're not supposed to feel settled in liminal spaces.
