And so there's no external signal that anything is wrong.
So if you're experiencing this experience,

It's because the signal is internal.
And for some people, it's pretty loud.
And for other people, it's really quiet.
But oftentimes sounds like just not quite there yet.
And this is where purpose and identity start to collapse into each other.
And that collapse is where things get genuinely difficult.
When your work is just your work, a bad day is just a bad day and it's annoying and it's frustrating and it lives in a separate compartment from who you are.
You close your laptop and it stays there.
But when your purpose and your identity fuse, when what you do becomes who you are, a bad day stops being a bad day.
It becomes evidence that you're failing at being you.
You can't just close your laptop and leave it behind then.
I recently had a really awesome conversation with Matt, who I met.
And Matt is a former mega church pastor.
He is a Jew that believes in Jesus.
And he's gone through a lot of transition in his both spiritual journey and his vocation, his job.
And he's probably the second person that I've heard describe a distinction between identity, assignment, and calling.
And I also heard this, I think it was by someone else in a kind of churchy sphere, spiritual faith-based sphere, maybe Pedro Aldo is who I'd heard talked about this.
