I think that's very real.
That's not just a hypothetical danger here.
Yep.
I think there's three.
They're all pretty disturbing to think about.
One is that the other is a rash of suicides among gambling addicts, which has happened in Europe and been a big motivator for re-regulating that industry, saying the industry can't self-police.
This is out of control.
We must tighten the guardrails.
And the third would be a major match-fixing scandal.
Even beyond what we've seen now where people say, this is destroying sports.
We're not going to allow that, even if it's making people some money.
Yeah, it was humiliating to me as a Georgetown grad because there was one fix where DePaul allegedly intentionally lost the first half.
So the indictments in Georgetown was up double digits and then the fix was over and DePaul came back and won.
So stuff like that stings.
Yeah, no doubt.
But yeah, if it were something on the scale of a Pete Rose or, you know, even it's strange, the biggest gambling scandal of this century was Tim Donaghy, the NBA ref who was convicted of betting on more than 100 games he officiated.
It seems quite clear he was blowing the whistle to look out for those bets.
And people made hundreds of millions of dollars supposedly off of colluding with him.
You'd think the NBA would never touch gambling after that, but if something like that were to happen now, I think people would say this is a direct result of what's happened.
I do think that's a reason why there's such a push to automate so much of officiating, you know, automatic ball and strike calling, using technology to spot the football in a football game, all sorts of stuff like that.
