The reason why this opinion was written by Amy Coney Barrett, one of the swing justices of the court and not Justice Alito, who if you want to see a radical opinion, look how he wrote the opinion on the other one that came out today about parents and their ability to block, to keep their kids from reading books dictated by the schools.
The reason why it was from Amy Coney Barrett is because she was able to
to agree and sign on to it and she got to write the opinion that is a that does provide a safety valve that is not the end of the world it's it's bad i mean this is going to expand presidential authority and power and uh it but it's not the end of the world because she does provide an alternative and that is
class actions.
Now, they're not easy, but you can get a nationwide class action and that would have the same impact as the much easier nationwide injunction now.
The other thing is the Supreme Court could have decided to take up and perhaps
write that birthright citizenship is gone.
But they didn't.
In fact, it's pretty clear that they're going to continue to allow birthright citizenship.
After all, it's plain in the 14th Amendment.
And so this could have been a lot worse.
It's still tough.
It's a bad ruling for those who want to hold the Trump administration accountable.
It's a bad ruling for those who want to limit presidential power.
But it could have been worse.
And I just want to point out those two points that make this a ruling that does allow people who still want to challenge the Trump administration actions to still be able to do so.
