I was curious.
Right.
Uh yeah, Nick Hartz is six five.
Uh there uh this is th having written this article two days ago, this is the time where I know how tall every single first baseman is.
But the what I was really curious is how the height of the first baseman affect the throws they receive.
In other words, if you're an infielder and you're getting ready to throw the ball to first, when you peek over right before you let it go, how much is the target that you see affecting the throws you make?
And obviously you'd expect a tall first baseman to get some higher throws and a short first baseman to get some lower throws just because their center of mass, whatever the target they're presenting is probably a little bit lower.
I found that the results were way stronger than I expected.
There is a huge correlation between the height of the first baseman and how many high throws they get, how many low throws they get.
When when you see a big first baseman, people just tort tend to like fire it over there.
They don't care if it's high, they don't care if it's low.
They just think this guy's gonna catch it.
I can let it go.
Uh and and that was really fun and interesting.
But the the end takeaway that I found was was maybe my favorite part.
Both tall first baseman and short first baseman.
caught the ball, whatever the throw looked like, 99.45% of the time.
Because the short first baseman got more careful throws, even though they weren't as good at scooping them, they didn't have to scoop them as often or they didn't have to field the tall throws.
So the numbers were a a perfect wash.
