And that's a really important safeguard in exactly the process you're describing.
Making sure that the right person who should get surgery does, and also making sure that the right person who should not get surgery does not.
If we can take that beyond a single decision maker to a group of
trusted clinicians who think about this all day, every day, we know that we will get better results, a better match, if you will.

There are always exceptions, but the whole point is we need to look at how the whole system is performing.
And as we aggregate data at a systems level, this is not about the individual surgeon.
This is about the team that the hospital's assembled to provide support and care for this patient at this time of their life.
So who bears responsibility for this?

We need to understand that many people
People should travel far less than they currently do in order to get world's best outcomes, and a few people need to travel further.
Right across the system everyone has responsibility.
We're taking responsibility because we've analyzed these data and we're now working with both public and private providers to understand and interpret this.
We've worked closely with surgeons at every step of the way and we'll continue to do so.
And already we're seeing some changes.
