I want to make sure staff still has clarity on what you're going to come back with because you could end up with conflicting feedback that kind of spreads you in different directions.

You could end up with different directions that then lead to too many sites, which is not the intent.

And so we just want to do the bare minimum to meet the numbers and recognize that we have opportunities coming up very soon for the 2031

housing element, the next housing element cycle, which I think we should start as early as next year.

I want to echo Vice Chair Scharf's comments.

I think we need to be careful about, because an owner showed interest, that we will proceed with it.

This is what led us to the Linda Vista property, the Avalanche property, then the McLellan property, and some of these other builders' remedies, I guess, that we ended up with.

I don't want to be influenced by what a greedy lot owner wants to do.

I want us to focus on

How do we convert, in a very deliberate manner, Class C office properties into housing element sites?

That's really where there's no regrets in losing Class C office properties.

So let's focus on De Anza Boulevard, Stevens Creek, Homestead, office properties, gas stations.

That's my ask.

And I want to hear back from staff.

If you're getting conflicting guidance, we can do a motion if you need that.

But I don't want us to

Albeit being well-intentioned, I don't want us to go after sites where there is interest from owners, where the development may actually be causing more neighborhood churn.

And the villages is actually one of those few remaining affordable housing sites.
