And sure enough, when I got to exit 43, the road was blocked again.
Everybody was being funneled off the interstate.
So I went down the exit ramp, and there were a group of state patrol cars there, all their lights flashing red.
And the troopers were out of their car and they were meeting.
This was a little before two in the morning.
And I walked over and sort of inserted myself into the group.
And one of them turned to me and said, sir, can I help you?
I said, yeah, I need to get to Johnson City.
He said, well, sorry, the roads are closed.
You can't get there.
I said, well, my daughter's getting married at 11, and I'm going to be there to walk her down the aisle.
He said, I appreciate your position, sir, but you can't get to Johnson City from here.
In my mind, I'm thinking, surely there's a way to get through.
He says, the bridges are gone.
So I said, okay, what about the back roads?
He said, no, we're not letting anybody drive on the back roads.
I said, okay, how about on foot?
