I think the only scene we see genuinely through the eyes of our narrator that's actually happening in real time is the moment where she sees Roy at the end.
The rest is recounted.
And then interestingly, we get previous stories where she's told him this and she hasn't told him that.
And we don't know why.
Yeah, and she's such a crafty narrator.

You know, I want to think about her portraits of Roy and Mandy, which, you know, when I first read the story, I didn't really think much about it.
Yeah.
But I'm reading it again and again, and particularly before coming here today, I was really struck by how mean she is towards them.
You know, and how sort of hostile she is.
Well, let's talk about the title.
Why is this called Hostel?
Mm-hmm.
Everything is transitory, so anything goes.
Well, they have, by the end of the story, they've become transient in her life because they're no longer really in it.
