They they all wanted to book uh homes, but they didn't want to come to Orlando.
No one wanted to go to a theme park in the middle of a pandemic.
Um so that was like an inflection point for us like hey, we're we're really exposed uh here, we're really dependent on the Orlando.
market now it's a pandemic but um we we can have hurricanes here um other natural disasters that could happen and then your whole entire business is is tied to that one geographic uh location so that was
Yeah, absolutely.
We were still growing in Orlando or still today.
Um, but yeah, we just saw that it's very risky, especially at at the the size that we were back then.
We were at I think around three hundred uh homes, three hundred and fifty maybe, um during the pandemic.
So you have a big operation, a big overhead, a big team and and and leases to pay and cars and and and all that software.
software and all of a sudden yeah revenue just uh plunged and and you still had to pay all those uh things but there was nothing uh coming in uh anymore so yeah for us it it was definitely uh the risking and and being active in in different types of uh markets.
One was actually a ruba, not not an uh not a simple choice, right?
But I a few years earlier I I met uh someone at uh a conference in in Vegas and and she we we started talking and and she explained to me that she had a small business in in Ruba.
She started around the same years as as we did, 2014.
And she was sharing her her
struggles so uh they had around fifteen homes that at one point they scaled up to like twenty homes but then things started to fall apart there there yeah you saw cracks coming into all the the procedures or or there weren't any procedures that was probably the the problem and and they had to scale down again to make it manageable uh um for for them so um we stayed in touch for probably
Probably two two years, uh once in a while she would reach out, like, Hey Dennis, I'm I'm I'm dealing with this issue.
How how will you resolve it?
And and then I would share what what we did uh um when we had that issue.
So we stayed in touch and and she had been asking me for for like two years, oh you should come over, I wanna show you what we do, and and but I I was so focused and and busy in in Orlando.
And growing that I said, like, yeah, yeah, uh I don't have time now, maybe later.
