Revelation, God said this, God said that, God made the world, these miracles occurred.

In this book, I make a different kind of argument.

I say, all right, let's actually put all of that to the side for a moment.

Let's grant you that these things are fantastic, they're implausible, they're unlikely in the extreme.

And by the way, the religious believer agrees, right?

That's why we call it a miracle.

We're not claiming that this is stuff that occurs in the normal course of nature.

We agree that a miracle is a fantastic, implausible, unlikely event.

But I would look at it this way.

You know, it's kind of like if you're a juror in a whodunit and there's a man who's accused and he gives this elaborate and maybe even fantastical account of what he was doing.

I was here, I was there, I couldn't have done it, I was 100 miles away.

but then there are a lot of particular factual details in his account, like I went to eat at Chick-fil-A, and then I came down this highway, and you're able to verify all of those.

He's got the receipt, and there's a camera that shows him coming down this particular highway.

Then you may or may not believe some of the details of his account, but you agree, guess what?

This guy was where he said he was, and he actually couldn't have done it.

He was, in fact, 100 miles away.

So the point I make is simply this.

that the deep historicity of the Bible makes it more likely that the other things that the Bible says are true as well.

Now, the skeptic can say, no, I accept the historicity of the Bible, but I refuse to believe those other things.

And my point is, we'll have to have another conversation about that.
