But that's just as an aside.
A departure that did surprise me a little bit was Connor Hayward agreeing to a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders.
That happened about an hour after Austin's deal was announced, right around the same time that we found out the Steelers had signed Jaquan Brisker.
And for a couple of reasons, this caught me off guard.
The Steelers love relatives on the same team.
Maybe that was more of a Mike Tomlin thing than anything.
Mike spoke yesterday at a gala at Accresure Stadium.
But Cam Hayward, also one of the longest tenured Steelers in team history, they just reworked his deal to open up more cap space, which was the exact amount used to sign Brisker, almost down to the cent.
Five and a half million bucks is what was roughly freed up with Cam's new deal.
So I had the assumption that they would just try to keep Conor around because of the Cam factor.
I also thought Mike McCarthy with his offensive mind may have viewed Connor Hayward as a Swiss Army knife type player.
Sometimes that's the way he was used.
Pretty effective in the tush push.
The occasional grab down the field.
The even less occasional touchdown.
Nothing crazy.
He's not a big loss.
And I'm not upset about it.
A decent special teamer when you want to talk about those guys.
And Myles Killebrew also went elsewhere yesterday.
