So the neglect that we're talking about for foster care is at a bar that has already created evidence of harm or an imminent threat of harm for a child.

And we hate to think of that.

The biggest reason I think we don't want to talk about it is because it's almost too painful.

I had a legislator once say to me, you know, like the eight-year-old at a park alone at night doesn't belong in foster care.

So the whole system is, you know, ridiculous.

And I'm like, well, that's not who's entering foster care is your child alone in a park at night.

I think there's cognitive dissonance because it's not human to picture us hurting our young.

Like that is the opposite of how we're wired and how we're meant to survive as a humanity, right?

I also think it's as we've created these systems to rescue and recover and reunify, we're so secretive about the process.

And part of it is privacy of the families involved.

But I think to some degree, that's also when in the absence of information, right, you make it up.

You fill in the blanks yourself.

If we could have families celebrate their unifications the way we celebrate Adoption Day, it would be amazing.

But that's not going to happen.

If we could have children grow up and tell stories constantly, just constantly tell stories about the relief and love they received while they were in foster care and how lucky they are to be back with their families or how lucky they are for their new family who's adopted.

It would start to dismantle some of the mystery.

I think we have made it easy for people to tell different stories because we are so silent about what's happening.

There was a CDC published survey of high school students and they surveyed the high school students nationally about how many had experienced one of eight adversities.

And the adversities were physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, physical neglect,
