But sometimes, again, it's just a form of attention is when I hit, I get attention.
Or when I hit, I get, you know, the toy that I was looking for.
So it's a form of communication for a toddler.
It's not malicious.
And sometimes it's just a child who's emotionally dysregulated and just out of control.
So they're physically out of control.
I would stay out of a toddler's way.
I mean, at the end of the day, they need their space.
And so that means if they're up on you or they're near you where it actually could hurt, you want to put them down and let them kind of have it out physically.
Once they have released all that energy, you can scoop them up.
Now I will say different kids respond differently.
Sometimes for a child who is physically out of control, kind of doing a nice sandwich and giving them a big body sandwich or a hug can help calm them down.
But a lot of times if they're physically out of control, they just need to let it out and then you can scoop them up.
It's a great question.
When a child is hitting another child, it may be because they're trying to get their attention, or it may be because they're trying to get something that they want that the other child has.
So again, kind of natural consequences, teaching them your friend doesn't want to play with you if you hit them.
You don't get the toy if you hit.
And give them the words.
Are you feeling frustrated?
Did you want that toy?
