hi guys welcome to the official two parents in a podcast channel remember like this video and subscribe to this page so you don't miss episodes dropping every monday and thursday ready okay welcome back to another episode of two parents in a podcast you guys today's episode is very exciting because we are going to cover the coveted topic of discipline, but as you can imagine, Harrison and I are not gonna cover it because that would be horrible. So we are here with Dr. Ari Brown, our reoccurring guest who we had over 100 questions submitted for you. We've narrowed it down to eight.
What does 'discipline' really mean and when should it start?
People love your episodes. You have been so helpful, not only to just Harrison and I, but to our listeners as well.
How can I tell if my toddler is ready for boundaries?
So thank you. Of course, as you guys know, she is a pediatrician. She is an author. And I thought, who better to ask than an author, our warm-up question for you, which is, do you think, like to say you've read a book. Oh my goodness. So good.
Is it normal for toddlers to bite, hit, or have tantrums?
I love it. I'm having a hot flash. This is the source of truth. Can you ask her? I'm literally heating up. I'm going to have to take this sweater off.
Oh, that may be a bit of a sign as well.
What?
Taking the sweater off.
Why would that be a sign? It's not your sweater. Oh, it's Harrison's sweater. My clothes don't fit me. Okay, I can ask it.
What is the #1 thing parents should avoid during a tantrum?
This has been happening to me.
I've been getting these hot flashes and I can't stop sweating. Are you allowed to wear your partner's clothes if the tags haven't been taken off yet?
How do toddlers learn self-regulation and what is the parent's role?
And the answer is yes, if you're pregnant.
If they're pregnant, 100% of the time, yes.
Okay, Dr. Brown, here's the question. Does it count as reading? Can you say you read a book if you listened to it on audio? Yes.
What are the classic discipline strategies and do they actually work?
Yes. From a doctor.
I know. I realize that y'all broke the internet on that question. But I mean, here's the thing is that you're consuming the content. So it's all how you define what is reading. But if you are consuming the content, I don't care how you've consumed it. And For some people, they actually do better with the way they process information by hearing it. Hello, podcast. They hear the information as opposed to reading it and retaining it. So I think it's valuable. And I celebrate as an author. I celebrate people who like absorbing the information in a book, however they consume it.
How does the arrival of a new sibling affect toddler behavior?
OK, and I think that she gets I think that that's the official stamp. OK, here's a question, though. You know, you guys count copies sold, right? More than one million copies sold on here. This baby 411, right? Because Dr. Brown is the author of the 411 series, as I think we all know. But the point of this is baby 411. The updated version is out now. But Toddler 411 is out on e-books, but the hard copy comes out in May. But you guys count, as authors, you count copies sold. Do you include in that now downloads played? And does that go into copies sold? Yeah, it's a book. It does. It's a book, yes. So if somebody listens, because Baby 411's 30 hours of listening, right?
Yes, for your listening pleasure now, you can get the audio book, yes.
So if you listen to it, that goes into a copy sold, right?
But that makes sense. That 100% makes sense to me. We're going to agree to disagree.
It's not a copy sold, but it is a copy listened to. It's an audio book.
You bought it. You bought it in both scenarios. There was money. There was an exchange of currency for the book. It was purchased, whether it was electronic or hard copy.
knowledge consumed knowledge consumed in both scenarios one was less than one was read okay the bicker of the week is over it's over dr brown solved it that's it she's a doctor and an author let's get into the good stuff we can't argue with that okay so today you guys were talking about discipline um you all have as many questions as we do but it's the simplest place to start which is when does discipline start and what does that look like for somebody under two years old
From an age perspective.
Great. Let's start with the definition, okay? Okay. So discipline simply means to teach. So when is your child capable of learning? And that's about 9 to 12 months of age.
