you know, even net of their background characteristics, their race, their ethnicity, their educational achievements and the like, they're more likely to be, you know, healthy, wealthy, and happy.
Um and there was a study that came out last week, for instance, CNN talked to me about it just sort of finding that we now have evidence that people are much less likely to get cancer.
When they're married.
And a lot of it was about lifestyle factors for both women and for men.
Lifestyle factors being excessive alcohol use.
drug use, multiple sexual partners, um, and then also not having kids in the case of women.
These are all things that actually increase your risk of of cancer markedly, apparently, from this new study.
So that's one health example when it comes to wealth we see is that folks in the in their 50s, I'm right in that in that demographic, I'm 55, um, have about nine times the the household assets as they're getting a little bit closer to retirement as
Their peers who are never married.
So a huge difference.
And a lot of these differences when it comes to both income and wealth, again, are kind of net of background controls for things like how much education you've gotten.
So when you get married, you just act, men tend to work harder, they work smarter, they work more successfully, for instance.
They're less likely to be fired compared to their similar male peers who are single.
There's one twin side.
Study done in Minnesota that showed that twin brothers, when the one twin was married, hearing about 26% more than his identical twin who was unmarried, kind of giving you a sense of sort of how marriage is helping, you know, young men kind of level up and and focus on you know on their work in ways that over time tend to redound to their to their benefit and that of their families as well.
Um and then on the happiness, you know.
front we're just seeing um as I mentioned this morning in chapel that there has been for a very long time a gap.
kind of marriage premium and happiness.
So people who are married are generally happier.
Um but what's new is that that gap is now growing.
