And you sustain it and you drive it forward by noticing it and telling people the good things that you have seen.
And it's incredibly powerful and it's very un-British.
It's very difficult to do.
The Americans are really good at this.
They're terrible at lots of other things.
But they're really good at that.
And if you can get people to notice something good in other people and to tell them, it is a beautiful addiction.
For some folks, they do it and they go, oh, that felt good.
It felt awkward.
I didn't think I was going to like doing that.
Turns out, telling somebody else that me telling Richard that we had a delightful meeting on Teams a few months ago, it was just lovely.
He was a bit uncomfortable, but actually, I also feel good about telling Richard that.
It's the true thing.
And, you know, I may have made him slightly uncomfortable.
But actually, probably a little warm glow as well, if he's honest.
Telling people good things makes them understand that we value those good things, and people in music, they keep doing it.
And if we don't get told the good stuff...
If our organisations don't tell us the good stuff, we are met with what's technically referred to as organisational indifference.
And if you're coming to work and you're working really hard at being a good version of yourself and it's never noticed and you see a bunch of people who are being pains in the backside, to be honest, and that they might be being recognised and promoted, eventually people just stop doing the good stuff because what's the bloody point?
So recognising the good stuff is the starting point.
