And the thing is, you know, people, you know, do have the ability to, you know, guide their own behaviors beyond what impulses you might feel.

So you might recognize that you have these feelings.

Like, you know, even President Jimmy Carter, you know, probably the most ethical president we've ever had, you know, in my lifetime in the U.S., said, I have lust in my heart, right?

And then like sometimes he sees a woman and he's like, oh, well, you know, she's attractive.

Right.

But he never, ever acted on it in his life.

Right.

So, so it's okay to have these feelings to be like, oh yeah, well, of course, you know, you're going to see somebody and they're attractive, but you know, you, you can choose what you do about it.

yeah we we think so i mean not in this particular study um you know we're using self-report measures and it's translated in different language and you know maybe these are people who already have kids and they're mostly women so there's a few there's a few different explanations probably why we might not be seeing that in this particular study but in general it's a trade-off you know so people have limited time effort and energy in life

And you can only devote so much energy to every one thing.

So the more you invest in mating effort, the less you have for parenting.

And you can certainly imagine even the behaviors of the course of a week, the more time you spend with your kids, the more you're doing things that's investing them, the less time you might have for running around town.

Right.

My colleagues were based in Poland.

So that's where the study was conducted.

And the sample of participants we have are Polish adults, all with children.

Yeah, we think so.

I mean, most of my studies are with North American participants and we see a pretty reliable trade-off between measures of a parenting effort and mating effort.
