And one of their doctrines in essence is if it works, do it more.
If it doesn't, stop.
And I think a lot of couples just get stuck in cycles where they just keep doing things that aren't working.
And
The therapy should match what the deeper need is.
So going to a a cognitive therapist to say, Okay, well if you do this and this and this it's gonna improve your marriage, that might be true.
But if you're not someone who's following through with it, then there's something else going on.
Maybe you need a little more hope before you buy into actually just jumping into an action plan.
Maybe there's trauma at the core here that you need to address before you can be vulnerable and have the kinds of discussions that are being asked of you.
So my approach is to figure out what is at the root.
Affairs.
Affairs are a great example of this.
Um
The way I deal with affairs and infidelity is to look at it as a symptom of issues in the marriage.
It's not the issue.
And affairs cause their own issues and we need to address that.
Usually though when the research shows this, there is something else that built up to the affair and people go outside their marriage for things they're not getting in their marriage.
And the reason they're not getting in the marriage is complicated.
Um so we have to deal with that complexity, you know, in the sessions then.
