My parents started Marriage Quest about thirty years ago and as they were retiring I was ramping up.
And in the pandemic I went from kind of a mix of individual and couples work to really full time couples work, 'cause the pandemic, if everyone remembers you might have blocked it out, it was a wild time.
Um
And
What I have and I basically I took their curriculum, updated it with some neuroscience, gave it my flair, a little more structure.
Um and uh and that's what I've been doing with couples now.
And what I find is that to your point
Most couples want to have results.
They're looking for something to change.
Most of the couples that come to work with me are on the edge of divorce.
Um a couple I worked with uh two weeks ago, they actually had a court date scheduled for two weeks after our retreat and this was like the final effort and that's that's not that uncommon actually.
And what I what I often tell people, and this is what I experience as well, is that no one wants to get divorced.
It's just that the status quo is not sustainable and they're looking for change.
And so my job is to give you change and then see now what do you think of your marriage?
So if you two are reacting to each other because of trauma, what if we do trauma work and now you kinda see, well how do we relate to each other now?
If you're realizing that you're expecting your partner to be this emotional gusher and then we go, actually they're on the spectrum, they're neurodivers, and this is just not possible.
Does that change your expectation and your frame of reference?
Where now you go, Oh, okay, I knowing that I can now give them a little more uh empathy and a little leeway to to be them but also work towards what I'm looking for in a partner.
And
So that clarity I think is is what really is most impactful for people because then they can make a reasonable assessment.
