Well, I think everybody kind of develops their own, I hate to call them coping mechanisms, but those places where you blow off some steam that are appropriate.
And this is mine.
If it does help me, it's a tremendous amount.
So first of all, let me just give, I have been a perioperative nurse for over 30 years.
Now I have done other things at the executive level, but still have, would always describe myself as a perioperative nurse.
And one of the key characteristics working in the operating room is the team.
There is really, I would say, nothing happens in an operating room without a team.
No one person comes in and the show happens because of that team.
It takes an interdisciplinary team.
And this is something that we learn regardless of whether you're a physician, a surgeon, an anesthesiologist, a nurse, a surgical technologist, or any of the other professionals that help care for patients in an operating room.
You learn that very quickly.
And you also see firsthand when...
things go well when things don't go well.
And I became very interested in some of the dynamics associated with team performance and what are those things that contribute to improved team performance.
And I would say to you that there is a belief, a very strongly held belief in the operating room that familiarity is the most important thing.
If you speak to surgeons, they would tell you, I want my team.
I want the people that I work with all the time.
And so the interesting part of that is that is not a well-studied phenomenon.
