It helps those individuals learn about what are the structures and the tools that we need to make sure are integrated into our environment.
And I think one of the best things about it is it helps people understand this is not a 30-minute in-service and you're done.
Changing a culture anywhere takes a fair bit of time.
And the other thing that has to be really recognized is the culture is constantly changing.
And it's constantly changing because the people are changing.
And so as new individuals are integrated into your department, onto your team, I think sometimes leaders, educators, and individuals forget those things that need to be integrated into the onboard.
One of the things that I think very successful organizations around this have done is they haven't said this is just what the nurses do.
They said, when we bring on new physician residents, whether they're anesthesia or surgeons, when we bring in new attendees, new individuals who are practicing here, new nurse anesthetists, new physician assistants or associates and nurse practitioners, we expect them to also have this training of how to work with other people.
And I think you will definitely see gaps and you would see it right off the bat if you walked into an organization and saw, I have a strong nursing team who understands this, but the physicians are obviously not getting this training.
And so again-
This is a team environment.
It requires everyone to have those skills and that skill set.
One of the other things that we did back in 2020, I happened to serve as president of AORN in 2020 to 2021, which was not a great year to be president.
It was the COVID pandemic started.
However, one of the great things that happened during that year for AORN is that
We worked on and developed a joint position statement with the American Association for Nursing Anesthesia and the American Society for Perianesthesia Nurses.
And so this was specifically on workplace civility.
And it was our stake in the ground to say, we recognize that this is something that we still are working on and we will be working on.
We can never stop working on it.
But it was really important that the three groups of nursing specialties that work together every single day in and around an operating room, the PACU nurse, the OR nurse, and the nurse anesthetist,
