But when you're talking about muscle mass and body composition, there's always the other macronutrients.
And so by having
2.2 grams per kg protein you can replace carbohydrates which most people who do bodybuilding or or muscle development would say that's a huge benefit to reducing body fat and so there's a lot of reasons beyond just well did it affect the muscle amount we started doing weight loss
partly because weight loss was interesting, but also because you couldn't really study sarcopenia.
You know, if we're interested in does protein as we get older, is that an important thing to do?
That's hard to study.
You'd have to do a controlled diet study for at least two decades to have power to study that.
But we can do sort of this similar sort of thing with weight loss in a
in a three-month period where you can tangibly actually control diet that long.
And we find that adding protein always benefits body composition.
I mean, most of our studies, if you power a study for body composition change, you basically need to get to a 10% change before you're really gonna be able to statistically detect it.
And for sarcopenia, that's at least, it's more than a decade.
You probably almost have to go two decades to have something you can really detect.
And so there's just no way that study's ever gonna be run.
And Heather's earlier point, the epidemiology, the survey data doesn't give you that range of protein, that people seem to gravitate to around the 1 to 1.2 range.
And the population that's above that is actually fairly small.
It was the 2010 guidelines that actually created the three pattern.
And I think it's almost too prescriptive for people.
They say, well, there's a healthy US pattern, there's a Mediterranean, there's a vegetarian.
I don't really like any of those.
