And when you're actually having a tangible growth, the nitrogen is accumulating and you can measure that.
But when you're talking about non-growing adults who shouldn't be gaining or losing nitrogen, what does nitrogen balance really mean in a short-term study?
And like I said earlier, I can't think of any health outcome that it relates to.
you know, for 40 years, I've avoided arguing the case because it's just so entrenched in nutrition that what we need to look for is other outcomes and, you know, body composition, nutrient density, you know, glutathione and oxidative stress, cognitive function and, you know,
serotonin and dopamine.
I think those are outcomes that are important to protein, even glycemic regulation with using protein to reduce carbohydrate.
Those are all outcomes that are very meaningful to protein and have absolutely nothing to do with nitrogen balance.
People continue to pick and choose how they interpret the DRIs.
And the DRIs for protein are 10% to 35% of calories, which is actually... Well, that's the DGA.
They're part of the dietary guidelines.
I'm sorry, they're part of the dietary reference intakes.
The jurisdiction of the numbers is under the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute
you know, for food and nutrition.
And they basically define what the RDA is going to be.
And they also then attempt to try and determine if there's an upper limit.
So is there a range of nutrient intake?
And, you know, in some cases, we have reasonable numbers.
In other cases, we have pretty vague numbers.
Could you give me an example?
I don't even know.
