There are lots of reasons why something might not be working for Joe in this particular lesson.

And this is sort of linked to cognitive load theory.

You write about this on the same page of the book, about cognitive load theory, which you describe as stemming from, again, a provocative quote here, a shrunken cold cognition view of children's minds and memories.

Why do you think it is that cognitive load theory gets such a good press and not such a good press, but just seems to have really taken root in recent years when the picture is so much more complicated than cognitive load theory would allow?

People just do more or less the same stuff at the same time in the same place most days.
