There was a case study of

a school using design thinking and applying it to workload reduction um and i really recommend that let's not get into it now but and for anyone who's not read the book yet that's a great one because it's such a burning issue and it's just a lovely practical example kind of a slice team approach the kind of approach that i advocate where we everybody was brought into that conversation to collectively sort of you know understand the nature of the problem first of all to generate ideas and then to actually execute those ideas and um and it seems to be really effective in that instance

And so let's get into this chapter of yours, Sarah, the first one about being evidence-informed.

And it starts by saying that we have a very narrow, inverted commas, head understanding of what evidence and data mean.

Could you just expand on that and unpack it a little?

What do you mean by that?

Yeah, it's about 70%.

I'll try not to get onto my soapbox too much about RCTs, but I agree.

You mentioned in that chapter about how Beaster has sort of written that they're arguably actually damaging because it sort of outsources the decision-making to the EEF.

And it's like, oh, well, I'm an evidence-based practitioner because I'm doing the three or four or five things at the top of the EEF toolkit league table thing, which also makes zero sense.

But let's set that aside.

I mean, I would take a different view on the implementation guidance.

I do think that it's good that it exists.

And I believe it's one of the most downloaded documents in the EES website.

So I do think that people are reading it.

But I just think that it's quite thin on detail.

Like it's quite a high level document.

So like a conceptual framework for what change looks like.
