This this long hoped for, long sought after son is not it's a girl.

But there is still hope that there the sons will follow.

Of course, she gets pregnant very soon after they presumably secretly marry, and so there's no reason to think that she won't get pregnant again and very quickly.

And it's on that basis that

The act of succession is controversial for a few reasons.

The clergy have already taken an oath, and Henry knows this, and Henry has already been incensed about this, that the clergy, he says, are not wholly his subjects, they're half his subjects, and then therefore not his subjects at all, because they've taken an oath to the Pope.

And so by demanding that they take this oath, and he goes to the clergy first and asks them to take the oath, by asking them to take the oath.

makes them decide between the oath to the Pope and the Oath to the King.

He's making them perjure themselves with the first oath.

Exactly.

And he knows this and and there's some there's been some excellent work done on the oaths and the oaths, because there's actually several that go around at this time and we have some of them.

We can conjecture about some of the others.

We think that the clergy were asked to take

a version of the oath that we see later on that makes it very clear that they're denouncing the Pope.

At the very least there's a line about foreign potentates and and other leaders that could imply the Pope.
