I think even a better example is the one you shared about the car, because at the end of the day, you said, Hey, I'm going to go with the decision of what's going to make Julie most comfortable.
You know, if she's stressed about getting car payments and going into any kind of debt and
I'm going to take that seriously.
And so when you made a decision, you didn't necessarily made that decision based on what you wanted or even what you thought practically we should do.
You made the decision considering my needs.
And so when you take, you know, the whole teaching of scripture together about what the wife is doing, what the husband is doing, the way you lead and make decisions is by laying yourself down for your wife as Christ did the church.
And so that's why I think these cliches either way, the happy wife, happy life is sort of a cop out for a lot of guys not to step in and do the hard work of grappling with decisions and taking responsibility for decisions.
But the flip side of that is when, you know, a husband is just kind of autocratically making decisions and not seriously considering the wisdom and perspective of his wife.
Is that kind of where you would land with that?
When I look over the 32 years of our marriage, there have been very, very few times where you made a decision without us making it together.
You know, every now and then there'll be something that happens in the moment where you'll make a decision together.
You know, like let's say it's a parenting decision and the boys are there and we've got to decide right now.
You might step in and say, this is what we're going to do.
But when it comes to weighing big decisions, I could probably count on one hand the times where you thought A, I thought B, and you're like, well, I'm the spiritual leader, so we're doing A. Like that just doesn't happen.
Yeah, I remember.
Yeah.
Yeah.
One of the things you say to me often, because we're in a weird situation of sometimes I make decisions in leading authentic intimacy that affect you.
So it's sort of like a role reversal.
I'll talk to you a lot about the decisions I'm weighing.
