Thank you so much.
I'm happy to be here.
Great, great, absolutely.
Absolutely.
So I think a great ADHD assessment is gonna have several components to it.
Uh the biggest component is a very thorough clinical interview.
Um, where I like to think of it as I am uh pla getting to play detective and I'm trying to put all of the pieces of information together to see what is uh contributing to the difficulties the patient or the client may be experiencing.
Um and so there's several things that we would need to rule out and rule in.
Uh you know, we could be looking at other mental health disorders like anxiety or depression.
We could be looking at trauma, we could be looking at academic challenges.
Um, but essentially, you know, that first component is gonna be a good clinical interview where we go through childhood history, education history, uh, for our adults occupational history to really get a good understanding of how they're functioning and in the in what context have they been functioning.
And then from there, we also want to get a thorough accounting of mental health symptoms.
Um, I want to know, you know, when, you know, if they've had previous diagnoses of other mental health disorders and when those disorders started, uh, when they began, when treatment, if they had any treatment, and if that treatment improved outcomes.
So we're really looking at trying to get this full picture of this person.
Um, one of the biggest components of an ADHD evaluation is getting ratings of symptoms.
Uh, and we want both childhood ratings of symptoms and adult ratings of symptoms.
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder, meaning that if you have it as an adult, you must have had some symptoms and some uh display of it as a child.
Now, for our adults, there can be lots of reasons why that might have been missed over time, but ultimately we need to have some evidence of those symptoms being there.
Um and in order to do that.
I like to both have the the client rate their own symptoms as well as getting uh collateral ratings from somebody else.
