Oftentimes, even for my you know, patients in their 30s and their forties, I'll ask to have a parent rating if possible, uh to get, you know, uh to be able to see like what did they think of those symptoms as a kid.
And sometimes we even throw in a parent interview if those ratings are making sense to get.
the contextual factors of things.
Um and then from there we we uh a good ADHD assessment is going to have norm-referenced uh clinical rating scales.
So comparing the person's ratings of their symptoms to other people in their age range.
So we can see um how they're functioning compared to the general population.
Um and then at that point, um I'm also doing other assessments to rule
in or out other mental health conditions.
So looking at depression ratings, looking at anxiety ratings.
Um I I like to use uh a personality assessment as well to kind of get a sense of any other mental health concerns that might be going on.
And then from there we take all of that and we look at it together and we start putting together the pieces to see what's the most likely explanation of the difficulties that this person is experiencing.
So that's a thorough ADHD assessment.
It can also include sometimes, if necessary, but it's not always required.
uh an assessment of cognitive ability if there's any cognitive concerns um in terms of intellectual functioning.
It can also include tests of academic achievement as well if we're concerned about any uh learning disorders that maybe that might look like ADHD or more often are comorbid with ADHD.
We know there's a lot of uh reading dis reading disorders in particular happen together with ADHD quite a lot.
Um and so that's often a
Piece of the puzzle we'll be putting together as well.
But that those are the components of a of a good ADHD evaluation.
